It is four and a hallf years since Third Ear released Detroit Beatdown Volume One. The first of the three volumes of the Detroit Beatdown Third Ear project was completed with the cd release of the complete Detroit Beatdown Remixes in 2006. Instead of a 3xlp and 2xcd compilation, Volume Two of the compilation will be spread across 5 eps (12 vinyl and DL releases) through 2007 and 2008. A 2xcd and limited box set will complete DB2 before we get into the remixes and Detroit Beatdown Sessions eps again. First up in DB2 is ep1: The Black ep. A1: DJ Minxs Lavender Lust, opens DB2. Minx has delivered a deep, twisted groover that just gets deeper and deeper. At a 109 bpm and 10 minutes, this is a real slow grinder. This track is a long foreplay for some serious floor play. A2: Reggie Dokes follows with the lilting and reflective The Skin Im In. The track has a delicious warm vibe that will work really well early in a set, or in the bar/lounge. 109 bpm. B1: Smith & Hall Theme opens the flip side. Delano Smith and Derwin Hall have collaborated to produce a big, punchy, soulful anthem. Lost in Music? The whole dancefloor will lose themselves in this. 117 bpm. B2: Black Art Music is a moniker of Greg Stafford, almost a newcomer with one release in 2003 on Moods & Grooves, Mike Grants label. Keepin The Groove is a deep and atmospheric track which does exactly what it says; takes the groove and runs with it. 119 bpm. Listen out for Black Art Music. This track wont be the last thing you hear from Greg Stafford. Mastered by Stefan Betke a.k.a. Pole @ Scape Mastering, Berlin. www.myspace.com/3ear |
