Wbeeza - Heavy Stuff

Available Now

Every now and again, House needs to make some kind of mighty statement to show that the music can acknowledge its roots but at the same time move forward and create new hybrids. That's exactly what's happened here with the first EP from 23-year-old Bermondsey producer Wbeeza [pronounced [double-u-beeza] who has simply blown up with a take on house which, while displaying distinctive flavours of strains like early 90s New York house music, is strictly London at the present time by broaching the city's own heritage of rave and garage. Third Ear honcho Guy McCreery says Wbeeza's the most exciting talent he's encountered his eight years in the music business. The man himself says it all starts with the kick drum. The title track plants the distinctive vocal sample over an organ-propelled groove before 'Bichez' slows the tempo and, again using sublime keyboard interplay, indeed invokes the classic NY style, maybe MAW. 'Disco Dayz' is a killer, using woodblock, strings, synth melodies and deep pads to build another floor-busting monster. 'London My Home' is his manifesto and it should be mentioned that the afore-mentioned mate these influences with riffs and flourishes from London's underground over the year. Genuinely fresh. 5 out of 5
