In 2008 Third Ear Recordings released The Soul Is Back (3EEP-084) by Soul Designer (Fabrice Lig). We thought it was destined to be a big track. But on release not many others shared our opinion. So it goes.... as Kilgore Trout says. One reason might have been that the track is not a straight 4/4 but has a heavy syncopation that makes it tricky to mix. Another reason might have been that it was released when the Minimal boom was starting to dip but still dominant. The Soul Is Back is almost a complete antithesis of a Minimal record having as it does, multiple layered strings and synths creating an anthemic celebratory vibe. Either way, it wasnt the big record we thought it might be.

So we decided to ask five remixers to remix the track. We asked artists whom we knew were feeling the original version and would each give it a different spin. The names speak for themselves; Luke Slater, Marco Passarani, Fluxion and UR Timeline (Mike Banks and Jon Dixon);, coming from the UK, Italy, Greece, the USA. Mental Overdrive (Per Martinsen) from Sweden provides a digital-only remix. All the remixers have opted for a 4/4 beat, indicating a consensus that the track needed straightening out to make it the dance floor bomb we had thought it would be.... Maybe this time...
